What is Self-help?

Self-Help is a process whereby we recognise that a problem exists and take the first steps to resolve it. This can be on our own or with help of others.

Self-Help is most effective when we feel ready to make changes in our lives. If we can set realistic and specific goals, we are more likely to be successful.

Self-Help information can assist us to begin to understand our problems and towards resolving them. The self-help information can be used individually or with the help of others. You may like to ask a friend or relative to guide you through the information with you.

Alternatively if you have a Health-Care Worker or Community Worker, ask them to work through the self-help information with you. They may also recommend other information or resources that may be of help.
